Hello Everyone! Welcome to week 36 of the Bible Art Journaling Challenge! SOOO many of you have asked me how to participate, when you don’t want to create directly on the pages of your Bible. This week seemed a good time to show you how I art journal devotional time with God.
You can join me in whatever book you like, I just want you to find a way to join your creative pleasure, with your devotional time in the Word. If I can give you confidence in some way, that is what I’d hope for!
Firstly though, two things… [click to continue…]
Hello Everyone! Welcome to week 35 of the Bible Art Journaling Challenge! This week I am staying On The Margin, while I invite you in to my private time of art journaling in my Bible. I spent some private time in the Word this past week, with the camera on, and my Gansai Tambi watercolors and acrylic stamps to create with. I shared a photo on my social media and in response, I’m letting you in to this personal time.
This week, my husband and I were unexpectedly blessed with [click to continue…]
Hello Everyone! Welcome to week 34 of the Bible Art Journaling Challenge! This week I am staying On The Margin of my Bible, while we continue to talk about rest. I feel like so many people get confused about this topic. The Bible encourages us to make our life count for the Kingdom of God and yet it tells us to rest. People often wear themselves out trying to ensure they’ve made their life count for Him. God is not a slave driver. In fact, He considers it an act of obedience, to rest. Being lazy is not something we should do, nor is working ourselves to a point of worthlessness. Balance is key.
Rest is an important enough topic, that we see God resting after six days of creation and we see Jesus modeling rest to His disciples. God knows that we are at our best for Him, when we come refreshed and prepared to give 100% of ourselves to what is in front of us. We cannot give 100% if we wear ourselves out by constant doing. Let’s be in His presence today and let it refresh us, so we can be ready to give our all to the tasks before us.
I hopped over to the book of Hebrews for this challenge and had some discussion with my Ministry Champions, about what sort of supplies would be fun for illustrating my thoughts on the verse I chose. So, out came some mixed media techniques! Join me in my video and then I’ll [click to continue…]
Hey friends! Quick notice.
You may know that last week, I mentioned in my Bible Art Journaling Challenge, that I’d be continuing the theme on rest today. After some thought and prayer, I’m going to take that seriously and postpone the challenge until late Thursday, to practice what I preach with some much needed rest of my own. The video is ready to share and I’m looking forward to finishing my blog post! This week, I’ve gone all things pink!
I’m off now to go get some rest with a cup of tea, my Bible and art supplies at our local, “Crafty Teacup”. 🙂 You might just see what I’m up to over on my Instagram account @RebekahRJones.
I’d encourage you to join me in looking after yourself in some way these two days! Let’s live refreshed so we can change the world from a place of overflow! Love you all and see you Thursday!
You are loved,
Rebekah R Jones x
Hello Everyone! It is week 33 of the Bible Art Journaling Challenge! This week I finally felt it was time to share about the topic of rest. It came at a great time personally but I know many of you have requested I share about rest, which was why I chose the topic for this week…. and will stay on the topic next week! If you’re in need of refreshing, stick around.
I fell in love with watercolor through the use of watercolor pencils and when I discovered the Caran d’Ache Neocolor II watercolor crayons… well… let’s just say, I had some months of personal artistic bliss. In my restraint, I’ve tried to [click to continue…]
Hello Everyone! It is week 32 of the Bible Art Journaling Challenge! So, if you’ve been following me long, you know I’m a little obsessed with neon these days. I try not to use it all the time, so I don’t bore you to tears with my enjoyment of bright. Balance is always good. 🙂 Today though, it really fit the bill. I’m talking about worship and when I think of worship, I pretty much find myself wanting to worshipfully twirl in wide open spaces with abandon, like a blissful kid of THE King of all. Bright neon red, orange, pink and yellow scraped over the surface of my page with… yes… Illustrated Faith stamps. It just fit today.
If you’ve not yet heard of Shanna Noel or her company Illustrated Faith, you are in for a real treat. She’s got [click to continue…]
Hello Everyone! It is week 31 of the Bible Art Journaling Challenge! I’ll be honest, I wasn’t one who excelled in my science and chemistry type classes in school. Art and English were more my cup of tea. I’m sure that is no surprise to you. But today, let’s get a little scientific and have some fun.
So, I love the technique of laying down a wash of watercolor and then sprinkling it with salt crystals while it is still wet. If you leave it to dry like that, the salt crystals actually soak up some of the watercolor pigment in the area where they sit. Something rather stunning and scientific happens right under your nose as it dries. When it is totally dry, you can simply brush off the salt and you’ll be left with a really amazing texture. See that white texture in the top area of that page where the red is? That is an example of what the watercolor salt technique can do. Very fun, very beautiful.
The watercolor salt technique is definitely not new, but when I went to try out this age old technique on my Bible pages, I felt like I was learning to re-invent the wheel again. It seems to be the case with SO many art techniques that have been around for decades and centuries. As soon as we apply them to Bible pages, its a total game changer and we need to start from the ground up. I’m not saying this is bad. I love a good challenge. I just discovered some coolness [click to continue…]
