Hello Everyone! Welcome to lesson 5 of the Prophetic Art Challenge, Vol. 1! In this devotional art journaling lesson, I share vulnerably as we learn about Elegant Writer pen art, watercolor and pearlescent watercolor!
I’ve taught before about Elegant Writer pen art, with a Bible Art Journaling Challenge. The Elegant Writer Calligraphy Pen is something my mom and grandma both had around when I was growing up. I had no idea until recent years, that it holds a little secret. You don’t have to just use it for calligraphy. You can create Elegant Writer pen art! But don’t just sketch with it.
Once you add liquid to your sketched lines, they spring to life, revealing the [click to continue…]
Hello Everyone! Welcome to lesson 4 of the Prophetic Art Challenge, Vol. 1! In this lesson I’ll be helping you understand watercolor transparency, as we look at the theme of hope. Watercolor transparency is something I get a LOT of questions about in the Bible journaling community.
In this lesson, you’ll learn a few things, but I want to highlight watercolor transparency. People often ask me if watercolor is transparent, or if it will cover the layers under it, (such as Bible text).
The reality is, watercolor is transparent. However, if used incorrectly, it can be applied in a more “opaque” fashion, which is not transparent. There is also watercolor designed for things like Japanese art, which is made on the opaque side. Regardless what type of watercolor though, all will be transparent if you water down the pigment.
By swiping a wet brush against the color of choice, you’ll get [click to continue…]
Hello Everyone! Welcome to lesson 3 of the Prophetic Art Challenge, Vol. 1! In this lesson I’ll be sharing about one point perspective drawing, as we look at making space for our creative calling. Let’s get started!
If you don’t know what perspective drawing is, it’s a bit like it sounds, but not quite. When we talk about, “Perspective”, it is often meant to mean, a particular attitude, or point of view. But, I want to talk to you about the other kind of perspective.
Perspective is also, “the art of representing three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other.”
In less “big” words and in simple concept, perspective drawing is

I want to share a story with you. My story with this full time art ministry. Maybe you’ll be able to relate to it. And, maybe you can learn something from it. It’s about to get super transparent and open here.
Just over three years ago, I had finished putting a filming studio together, (which I had to research at every step), built a website, (took positively ages), taught myself how to edit video, (not for the faint at heart) and bought a few extra art supplies, (super fun and daunting all at once).
In the months leading up to that, I’d felt a strong pull to write and to film. The problem was, I had [click to continue…]
Hello Everyone! Welcome to lesson 2 of the Prophetic Art Challenge, Vol. 1! In this lesson I’ll be sharing some mixed media art techniques as we talk about a new theme for prophetic creativity.
I am a mixed media artist. According to wikipedia, mixed media art is a visual artwork “in which more than one medium has been employed.” It’s essentially where multiple art supplies, (aka, mediums), are used in the same piece of artwork. In this mixed media art lesson, I’ll be “employing” ink, die cuts, pen and more. I hope you will feel inspired to
Hello Everyone! Welcome to lesson 12 in Deeper Still! In this Bible Art Journaling Challenge series, we’ve been taking an adventure into the depths of God and in this lesson, we’re officially reaching the end of Deeper Still! It’s a great time to talk about value painting. In Lesson 11, I shared about creating an Inktense underpainting with the foundation of some adorable lion cubs. In this final lesson, we’ll be finishing the lion cubs with value painting.
So what is value painting? I wouldn’t call it a “term”. It’s something to consider creatively. I often find that when people are learning about creativity, they can tend to put down color a bit timidly and as a result, end up with something that looks a bit flat and lacking in dimension. Imagine that there is
Hello Everyone! Welcome to lesson 1 of the Prophetic Art Challenge, Vol. 1! In this lesson I’ll be sharing a bit about how this exciting series will work, some tips for developing and creating prophetic art, give you a collage painting tutorial and also some understanding of spiritual interpretation of prophetic art. Lots of fun to pack in, but I think you’ll find I seem to find a way to meld everything together in an approachable and supportive way that you’ll really enjoy. Grab something nice to drink, turn off distractions for a bit and let’s dive in!
In this first lesson, I wanted to reach for the mixed media artist in me. Mixed media art is created when we use more than one type of art medium, (aka, supply), in a piece. For example, watercolor with colored pencil both in one art piece. I wanted to create a collage painting for this lesson, to bring together a bunch of seemingly different pieces, into one thing, to represent the diversity of our prophetic art community and how we can come together. I think you’ll love how [click to continue…]
