Hello Everyone! Welcome to lesson 12 in Deeper Still! In this Bible Art Journaling Challenge series, we’ve been taking an adventure into the depths of God and in this lesson, we’re officially reaching the end of Deeper Still! It’s a great time to talk about value painting. In Lesson 11, I shared about creating an Inktense underpainting with the foundation of some adorable lion cubs. In this final lesson, we’ll be finishing the lion cubs with value painting.
So what is value painting? I wouldn’t call it a “term”. It’s something to consider creatively. I often find that when people are learning about creativity, they can tend to put down color a bit timidly and as a result, end up with something that looks a bit flat and lacking in dimension. Imagine that there is
Hello Everyone! Welcome to lesson 1 of the Prophetic Art Challenge, Vol. 1! In this lesson I’ll be sharing a bit about how this exciting series will work, some tips for developing and creating prophetic art, give you a collage painting tutorial and also some understanding of spiritual interpretation of prophetic art. Lots of fun to pack in, but I think you’ll find I seem to find a way to meld everything together in an approachable and supportive way that you’ll really enjoy. Grab something nice to drink, turn off distractions for a bit and let’s dive in!
In this first lesson, I wanted to reach for the mixed media artist in me. Mixed media art is created when we use more than one type of art medium, (aka, supply), in a piece. For example, watercolor with colored pencil both in one art piece. I wanted to create a collage painting for this lesson, to bring together a bunch of seemingly different pieces, into one thing, to represent the diversity of our prophetic art community and how we can come together. I think you’ll love how [click to continue…]
Hello Everyone! Welcome to lesson 11 in Deeper Still! In this Bible Art Journaling Challenge series, we’re taking an adventure into the depths of God! In this lesson, I want to teach you not only about Inktense underpainting, but also about rest and balance in our lives.
Unlike any other Bible Art Journaling Challenge I’ve ever done, I’m going to stretch one entry into this lesson and the next. I don’t believe we have to sit down and finish a Bible journaling entry in one sitting. I get questions a lot about making time for Bible journaling and I want to let you in on an entry I’ve been working on for almost a full year. That’s right. But not regularly. The process of revisiting the same place as it speaks to us and to continue revisiting something which God is wanting us to linger in, is a valuable part of our personal growth. And, lingering in one creative project, or revisiting it with detail, can help us notice where to improve and make us better as a creative.
On the technical side of things, I want to show you about underpainting. In this instance, Inktense underpainting. An underpainting is where you add bottom layers of color to your painting, to establish a foundation for the color you want as your final layers. An underpainting can come in a lot of styles and have a lot of [click to continue…]
Hello Everyone! Welcome to lesson 10 in Deeper Still! In this Bible Art Journaling Challenge series, we’re taking an adventure into the depths of God! In this lesson, I want to share watercolor Bible journaling with you, using one of my favorite watercolor products… Neocolor II watercolor crayons! And… let’s not forget the super fun little touch at the end which requires fire. You’ll have to watch the video to see what I mean.
Watercolor Bible journaling is a favorite of mine. Years ago I ran across some watercolor pencils and loved how simple it was to draw with color and then add water for a more controlled watercolor experience. Water has a way of making color come alive on paper and I was hooked! Some time later, I found a [click to continue…]
Hello Everyone! Welcome to lesson 9 in Deeper Still! In this Bible Art Journaling Challenge series, we’re taking an adventure into the depths of God! Thanks for joining me in this lesson, as I paint a galaxy with Inktense Blocks as we discuss a grossly mis-quoted scripture, to ponder God’s majesty and our role as His kids.
It is no secret that Inktense might be my favorite art supply of all time. Inktense is just what is sounds like… intense ink. Inktense is vibrant and lovely to work with. In this lesson, I want to show you the difference between watercolor, Inktense Blocks and Inktense Pencils. Let’s [click to continue…]
