Turn Your Heart – Heaven Is Calling Lesson 9
Hello Everyone! Welcome to lesson 9 in the Bible Art Journaling Challenge series, Heaven Is Calling! I’ve got a brief blog post and a packed video for you! I put the camera on live and pulled out my stamps, to just spend some time with you in this lesson. In this Heaven Is Calling series we’re talking about connecting with a good God and today, I want to talk to you about what happens when we need to find our way back into the loving arms of Jesus. We’ll look at the life of King David in the Bible and how he dealt with re-connecting with God. This is a tough topic, but it wouldn’t be right to focus on connecting with a good God, if we didn’t cover what to do when we’re disconnected.
Heaven Is Calling Lesson 9
If you’re needing to find your way to God, you’ll love this and if you’re already feeling connected with Him, I hope you find this lesson gives you thoughts on how to steward that connection and foster more depth of relationship with God. We can all use turning our heart closer toward God and focusing in on our connection with Him. This is deep and good stuff! I hope you don’t mind the extra time I’m taking with you in this video lesson. It’s important stuff.
It’s STAMPtember at Simon Says Stamp this month, so I did some page prep on my Bible page and got stamping and coloring! I have always thought STAMPtember is a lot of fun and I am pleased to not only be an affiliate of Simon Says Stamp, but also to add my own twist to STAMPtember, right in my Bible, with this lesson! I love how easy and fun it was and the topic is a great one for us all to ponder in our creative time with God. Without any more delay, let’s get started! Below, you’ll find all the supplies I’ve used, as well as a couple favorites collections of stamps I love and use again and again for Bible journaling!
I used my Double Column ESV Journaling Bible, for this lesson. The scripture for this challenge is 2 Samuel 12:19-20. We come into the story just as King David is discovering that his child has died. Look at David’s response to the news and then let’s get started with the video.
19 But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David understood that the child was dead. And David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.” 20 Then David arose from the earth and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothes. And he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. He then went to his own house. And when he asked, they set food before him, and he ate.”
Turn your heart
Let’s dive into this topic a bit more and get creating. Enjoy the video!
I’d love to hear from you in the comments below! If you’re new here, we have lots of helpful people in our community who pop into the comments and share ideas and thoughts you may want to check out. If you’ve not seen lesson one yet, I encourage you to start at the beginning so we can go on a journey together in this free 12-part devotional series. It’s not too late to join in, (it never is!) and I’d rather you start anywhere, than not at all.
Bible journaling supplies featured today
As promised, here are the supplies I featured, in this lesson. I hope they help you find anything you may want to try out. All links will lead to my affiliate partners, Dayspring (DS), Scrapbook.com (SB), Amazon (AZ), Simon Says Stamp (SSS), and United Kingdom Suppliers (UK), with the exception of other links provided freely to support your process. These supplies are purely optional and you are free to participate with whatever you have, using the scripture for this lesson. Thanks for your support!
My favorite alphabet stamp sets for Bible journaling
I find having a few alphabet stamp sets in different sizes and styles, gives me a lot of flexibility when Bible journaling. If I had to choose one, it’d be the Clearly Kelly Outline Letters, but honestly they are all great. I have more sets that didn’t make the cut. These are only my favorites, which, honestly, nearly always get pulled out and used instead of any others.
My favorite musical and instrument stamp sets for Bible journaling
I’ve showed these instruments in various other Bible Art Journaling Challenges and I’ll probably keep reaching for them as long as you can buy them. If everyone keeps buying them, I’m sure they’ll keep selling them. Those Carved Instruments from Tim Holtz and the piano key’s from Stampendous are just beautiful. The Music Notes from Inkadinkado are tiny and great for fitting everything in the margin of your Bible.
Page Prep Bible journaling course
I talked briefly in my video today, about my online course, Page Prep… Head to www.PagePrep.com to learn more and register your interest, so I can get you early bird pricing! I’ve had a few things push the timing forward a bit, but am getting close to sharing and am SO excited for it to be ready! I hope you’re putting a bit of money aside to join me in the course. I really believe it is going to be an amazing course journey together.
Just a note about how Page Prep will work… I will be opening and closing enrollment, so I can focus on a group of students and everyone can go through the experience together. It means if you don’t join this time, you’ll be able to down the road, but truly, this first time is bound to be SUPER fun. Plus, students will get access to all future updates, regardless if I have to raise the price later for extra lessons, etc. I am planning to sell the course for less than it’s value, to ensure as many as possible can join me.
Opening and closing enrollment won’t be the case with all courses I do in the future, but this one is big enough I want to look after a group of student at a time. I think this first group is very likely to get an amazing experience at the best possible price. I’ll be sure to let you know when early bird pricing is ready with more course details, if you’ve given me your details on www.PagePrep.com Exciting!

Hi Rebekah! I’m definitely in that category of having no idea about how to do stuff like this, so the tips on stamping (and other stuff!) were much appreciated! I really love being creative, but have ZERO knowledge of how to make things look like what’s in my head!!! But through these tutorials, I’m learning so many cool techniques, and you’ve been teaching me that I don’t need to be a perfectionist in this; the importance is drawing close to God! Learning that has given me so much freedom to just try things out! I’ve found so much joy just creating and abiding in God as I do! Thank you! 🙂 And you are also loved. x

It is good to remember that we can always turn our hearts back to the Lord, even after we have sinned. Love these instrument stamps too!

I enjoyed your lesson! Could you explain how you set-up your pens/pencils/paints,etc? I could see them in your video. I’m always wondering how to best store my tools so I can see everything I have and be able to use what I need when I need it. Thanks!

I have been scrapbooking for 19 years, so I LOVE Bible Journaling. Most of my supplies can be used for both. Just another way to study God’s Word… thank you for your inspiration

So excited to get into bible journaling. I have my mother’s Bible, and several devotional books of hers, she journaled in her Bible, even without large margins and in her devotional books. The journaling is a glimpse into her mind and I hope that my journaling will do the same.

Trying to get inspired by this passage is a bit difficult. Of course, the sin is typical, but not inspiring. The fact that David got up and praised God after he had experienced a loss is praise-worthy. That he praised God in spite of Nathan’s foretelling disasters that would befall those around him and his nation is definitely inspiring. Perhaps I can focus on that: David knew great punishment was on the way, and yet he praised God.

I used to do some papercrafting and scrapbooking, but I haven’t done it in a long time. Within the past six months, I have started bible art journaling and am LOVING it! Your videos are so helpful for me to see the possibilities, be reminded of things I have forgotten, and learn to tips specific to creating on bible pages. Your devotions are also a reason I recommend your website to everyone I meet that is doing bible art journaling. I love that you are immersing us in scripture while teaching us new skills. Thank you for all your hard work!
