More Than You Ask For – Heaven Is Calling Lesson 7
Hello Everyone! Welcome to lesson 7 in the Bible Art Journaling Challenge series, Heaven Is Calling! We’re talking about page prep, stamping and coloring with pens! Faber-Castell Pitt Brush Pens! And that title for this challenge? You’ll have to watch the video to understand. 😉 Importantly, I’m doing something highly requested, that I’ve never done before.
I’m taking you “behind the scenes” of my Bible journaling planning, designing and thought process… a major request. A big video and it is full of tips on font pairing, stamping, page prep, coloring with pens, no bleed through and a whole lot more that is super simple to do! Trust me. You can do this.
Lets be honest, I’ve been so busy developing an exciting new online course for you (coming soon!), that I’ve got a lot of people saying they miss me. So, I’m taking some extra time with you today. More time than I’ve ever taken on a Bible Art Journaling Challenge before! This blog post will be brief because of time invested in my video lesson, but I think you’ll love it. And of course, look below for all the supplies featured and shown as I walk you through everything.
I’d love to hear from you in the comments below! If you’re new here, we have lots of helpful people in our community who pop into the comments and share ideas and thoughts you may want to check out. If you’ve not seen lesson one yet, I encourage you to start at the beginning so we can go on a journey together in this free 12-part devotional series. It’s not too late to join in (it never is!) and I’d rather you start anywhere, than not at all.
In this lesson, we’re carrying on with the Heaven Is Calling series theme, of connecting with a good God. I often trumpet the importance of reading context when trying to understand scripture. Today, I will do that again but really, I want to narrow in on a little piece of scripture that is so “lost in the midst of them”, that I couldn’t find any notes near it in all of my Bibles that I searched through. I’m a bit of a note taker and marker, as you can see from some of my Bibles…
If you’re new here, or, if you’re an old friend, either way… grab a tea or coffee, your Bible and any fun art supplies you like the look of and let’s encounter God through creativity in the Word…
Scripture
I used my Double Column ESV Journaling Bible, for this lesson. The scripture for this challenge is Joshua 15:16-19.
16 And Caleb said, “Whoever strikes Kiriath-sepher and captures it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife.” 17 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, captured it. And he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife. 18 When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field. And she got off her donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?” 19 She said to him, “Give me a blessing. Since you have given me the land of the Negeb, give me also springs of water.” And he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
And with that, enjoy the video, find the supplies below (or use what you have!) and comment below to share you thoughts, of what you’re learning and any questions too!
A quick interesting note I didn’t fully mention in the video, is that Faber-Castell Pitt Pens, although permanent and also quick drying, they have just enough time to blend with other colors if you create on top of page prep. Another fabulous reason to page prep in my opinion. I love what it makes possible.

Rebekah, Thank you for the scripture reference for lesson 7. I enjoyed watching the process of creating the journal page. It was informative and will be helpful. Your free resources are always great! Anyway, the verse in Joshua is very encouraging to me personally. I haven’t seen that passage in a long time. Thanks again for producing good, inspiring videos. You are making a difference in peoples lives.

Hi Rebekah, thank you so much for your process videos. I found a bible to journal in called
Inspire, NLT from Tyndale House Publishers. It really works for me because it already contains line drawings on many pages. Since I have two left hands when it comes to art, this allows me to color in lines. I also wanted to mention a product to use for prep, that I came across quite by accident. It’s called Angel Craft Podge, Semi Gloss. It says that it glues, seals and protects. Originally gluing was why I purchased it. However, if you let it dry for a quarter hour, it seals nicely I don’t have all the supplies you have, but watercoloring doesn’t bleed through and the pages have very minimal wrinkling.
As for Achsah, what an intelligent young woman. She must have prayed prior to telling her husband what she wanted, because those were wise choices. What is land without water? And not just any body of water, but a spring which will not easily dry up. I’m a widow now, but if the Lord brings another good man into my life and he asks me what gift he can give me, you can bet I won’t be asking for my usual…jewelry, clothing. It may be a bit impractical nowadays to ask for land, but I will be praying to the Holy Spirit for a worthy answer. God Bless you.

I love that you found a product for prep that you’re enjoying, but I have to caution against anyone thinking I might recommend it myself. Semi Gloss mediums like this can often cause pages to stick to each other in time. If this happens to you down the road, try dusting with an embossing buddy, which will help. I’m going to be delving into these things more deeply in my upcoming online course about page prep. 🙂

Dear me Rebekah, My above comment is a mistake. Now I understand that she didn’t ask her husband for land, as he was given only her as a wife by Caleb. It was Caleb who gave the land to his daughter (as an inheritance…a dowry??) She petitioned her father for the springs. I have to be more careful in my reading. My lesson to self…re-read and listen to your entire lesson.

That is okay! I imagine we all can misunderstand what we read, at times. I love that you’re seeking out the deepest parts of what you can learn from things. x

Rebekah, I need more clarification on page prep. Most specifically when do I use clear gesso vs matte gel medium? Very confused in Mississippi.
Thanks for your help,

I have really enjoyed your site. It has given me some new ideas and I have shared your site with many of my friend. I have some of the stamps you have suggested.
You might want to look at stamps from “Our Daily Bread Designs” – Great Christian based company. I use many of their stamps in my bible journaling and in my card making. I make cards for family and friends and also for the clergy to use. Check out their stamp.

Kelly is great to work with and I think you will find the stamps to be a great addition to what you are using now.

Hey Rebekah I love the sleeves you have your stamps saved in…can you tell me what they are and where we could find? I am still a work in progress with organization and keeping my stuff in good condition. 🙂
